PERSONAL SALVATION EXPERIENCE

I was born in a family of witch doctor where my father and our relatives from my grand father were practicing faith healing through the power of the evil spirits. Many people seek their services to cure illness and many people testified that they get healed. But when I was four years old, I was seriously ill to the point of death. Since my father is a faith healer or a witch doctor then, he tried all what he could to cure my illness but all his efforts failed. He then called our relatives who were also faith healers and they too tried all what they knew to heal me but they were also failed. While I was in the verge of death, a relative advised my father to bring me to the Pastor for prayer. At first, my father was very hesitant because he doesn’t believe to the pastors. What he only believed then was his amulets and his powers as faith healer. But since he could do nothing for my healing, he followed the advice and I was brought to the house of a Pastor in Roxas, Oriental Mindoro where two pastors prayed for my healing. After the fervent prayer of those pastors, I was instantly healed. Next day when my father noticed that I’m really healed, he went back to the pastor with the idea that the pastors’ amulets are more powerful than his. So he ask them to give him more power to add to the power he already has so that he could heal every sick person that will come to him. But the pastor told him that my healing was not through amulets or any human or any spirits’ powers but God’s power in answer to the prayer of faith. And the pastor shared the gospel to my father that brought him to know the Lord as his personal savior and Lord that resulted to the Salvation of our household. After his salvation experience, he then rejected faith healing practices through the power of the evil spirits. And since our parents became Christians, I grew up in a Christian home where both of them are active in serving the Lord.

When I was a child, our house was fourteen kilometers away from the church crossing mountains and rivers on our bare foot to reach the church for our 7:30 in the morning Sunday school. Nevertheless, we always arrived at the Sunday school on time. Our family never miss our daily family devotion every five o’clock in the morning and every six o’clock in the evening. There was a time that we came home late and we need to do our six o’ clock evening devotion, we stop at the roadside, sung a few songs then my parents ask me to kneel down with them at that roadside and prayed. Then go on our way home. As early as four years old, my father always took me with him in the Bible studies and follow ups he conducted. Because of these, I was really blessed to witness from my parents the example of Christian living and Christian service at the early years of my life.

I also grew up in Sunday school since four years old from one department to another and was involved in many children’s and youth activities in our local church. And at the age of fourteen, when I fully understood the Gospel from my heart, I surrendered my life to Jesus and received Him as my personal Savior and Lord. Since then, I lived a life pleasing to Him and kept serving Him with the burning desires in my heart that my life will only bring glory to His Name.

PERSONAL CALL TO THE MINISTRY

On October 17, 1980, my father asked me to substitute him in a Bible study at a remote place about seven kilometers away from our house. Aside from the daunting distance, it was a dangerous place because of the growing insurgencies in that area at that time. Knowing well the place, I didn’t say a word to my father but in my heart I wanted to escape. But when I entered our room, I saw a Vision. I saw heaven so bright in all its splendor and glory. No word can describe its beauty. From the heaven’s brightness, came out a big hand that stretched out on me. While I was looking at the beautiful hand, a bright light came out of that hand and beamed toward me. At that point, I started to cry, cry, and cry that lasted more than three hours. While I was crying, all the hardness of my heart, my resistance to obey and all my fears were all gone. In place of the brokenness of my heart came love, compassion for the lost and a holy boldness to face whatever I may encounter along the way. After more than three hours of crying, I got up, prepared myself and told my father that I’m ready to go to the Bible study. I did go to the Bible study and in the middle of our study, all people present started to cry. I couldn’t understand then as a young teen-age boy what it is and why it happened. All I know was that all the people who came to that Bible study surrendered their lives to the Lord.

After three months, our Pastor in our local church in Bongabon, Oriental Mindoro asked me to preach in New Year’s Eve of 1980 in our own local church. Again, at the middle of my preaching, people started to cry. I almost couldn’t finish my preaching because the people were crying. When I gave the invitation for the people to come forward to surrender their lives to the Lord, out of more than three hundred people present that evening, only seven people left on the bench. All of them came forward and surrendered their lives to the Lord. Because of these circumstances, I’m very sure without a shadow of doubt that God really called me to the ministry.
